Evaluating the ease of switching? Learn how to migrate your organization from LastPass to Dashlane with this step-by-step guide.

Data migration doesn’t have to be complicated.

If you’re a security professional interested in what the process of migrating your organization from LastPass to Dashlane would be like, you’re in the right place.

Admins of Dashlane professional plans can migrate their organization’s logins and security data from LastPass to Dashlane in four streamlined steps.

Step 1: Deploy Dashlane to your organization

Before migrating data, you must establish your Dashlane environment. Use our Admin Deployment Guide to learn how to:

  • Create and configure your professional plan
  • Access and navigate the Dashlane Admin Console
  • Define global security settings
  • Onboard plan members and admins

Step 2: Import data from LastPass into Dashlane

Everyone at your organization who uses LastPass needs to move their own LastPass data to Dashlane.

Your plan members can import data directly from LastPass using the Dashlane web app. Direct import is the safest and easiest way to move their data.

If they have problems with direct import, they can also export their data from LastPass to a CSV file and then import the file into Dashlane.

Import data directly from LastPass

Your plan members can follow these steps to import their data directly using the Dashlane web app.

  1. Log in to the web app
  2. Select Import data in the top right of the app. If you don't see the Import data button, open the Vault menu in the top left of the app, select Settings, and then select Import data.
  3. In the Import source menu, select LastPass.
  4. Select Directly from LastPass and then Go to LastPass.
  5. You'll be taken to the LastPass login page if you're not logged in already. Log in to your LastPass account. Then you'll be redirected back to the Dashlane app.
If you're already logged in to LastPass, your LastPass vault will open briefly, and you'll be redirected back to Dashlane.
  6. In Dashlane, enter your LastPass login details again, and select Unlock data.
  7. Preview your import. You can change whether Dashlane imports an item as a login, Secure Note, or payment method. You can also choose not to import an item.
  8. Select Import items. You'll see a confirmation with the number of items imported.

The import will include logins, Secure Notes, and payment methods. Information that Dashlane wasn't able to import to a specific field will appear in the Note section of logins or the content of the Secure Note. LastPass folders become Dashlane collections.

Import LastPass data from a downloaded CSV

Your employees can export their data from LastPass to a CSV file and then import the file to Dashlane. They can export CSV files using the LastPass browser extension, but not the LastPass mobile app.

If they have problems exporting from LastPass, ask them to contact LastPass support.

Import a LastPass CSV file with the web app

Your plan members can follow these steps to import their data using the Dashlane web app.

Important: CSV files aren't encrypted, and other people can read them. Delete the CSV file from your device after you finish importing your data.

  1. Log in to the web app
  2. Select Import data at the top of the app. If you don't see the Import data button, open the Vault menu in the top left of the app, select Settings, and then select Import data.
  3. In the Import source menu, select the password manager you exported your data from. Or select Other CSV. Then select Get Started.
  4. Drag your CSV file to the app or select browse your computer files to search for it, and then select Next.
  5. Preview your import. You can change whether Dashlane imports an item as a login, Secure Note, or payment method. You can also choose not to import an item.
  6. Select Import items. You'll see a confirmation with the number of items imported.

Import a LastPass CSV file with the Android app

Employees can follow these steps to import their data using the Dashlane Android app. They need to have the CSV file saved on their Android device or move the file to their device to complete these steps.

Important: CSV files aren't encrypted, and other people can read them. Delete the CSV file from your device after you finish importing your data.

  1. In the Dashlane Android app, open the Vault from the side menu.
  2. On the Vault screen, select + Add new and then Logins.
  3. On the next screen, select Import multiple items.
  4. On the Where are you importing data from? screen, select From a CSV file.
  5. On the next screen, select Select file. You may need to enter your Master Password or unlock Dashlane with your face or fingerprint. If we need more information, a pop-up appears with the title Let's match your file. Select Start matching. Note: If we don't need more information, you won't see the Let's match your file pop-up. We'll import your data directly.
  6. Review the data. If you don't want to import an item, clear its checkbox.
  7. When ready, select Import.

Step 4: Offboard LastPass and optimize Dashlane

To ensure a smooth transition and prevent credential conflicts:

  • Delete unencrypted files: Since CSV files aren’t encrypted, ensure all members delete the exported files from their local downloads once the import is complete
  • Disable autofill in LastPass: Instruct members to turn off LastPass autofill or uninstall the extension to prevent it from interfering with Dashlane
  • Uninstall LastPass: Ensure the proper uninstall method is used to remove all traces of the program on your computer.
  • Enable 2FA: Encourage all users to protect their new Dashlane vaults with two-factor authentication (2FA)

The information above and so much more is also on the Dashlane Help Center, which has hundreds of helpful articles walking you through everything from key features to Dashlane's security architecture and beyond.
