Challenge: Protecting sensitive data while maturing security processes

Headquartered in London, England, Thirdfort is on a mission to “protect society from fraud and money laundering.” Their platform serves more than 1,500 customers across the legal, finance, and property sectors, offering solutions such as digital ID verification and source of funds checks for high-value transactions.

Thirdfort handles large amounts of sensitive consumer data on behalf of their customers, including financial information. Organizations rely on the company not only for simple and secure due diligence but also for regulatory compliance. With trust at the foundation of Thirdfort’s success, protecting data and ensuring secure employee access are mission-critical.

“Our clients’ trust is the foundation of our business,” explains Joaquín Rodríguez Santana, TechOps Lead at Thirdfort. “A breach is not an option, which is why we are committed to continually hardening our systems and adopting best-in-class security tools.”

When Joaquín joined Thirdfort a few years ago, he recognized a gap in their ability to protect access to personally identifiable information. While they had the LastPass password manager deployed, Joaquín said only a few employees used it due to its non-intuitive user interface.

With LastPass, Thirdfort couldn’t see how many risky passwords employees used across accounts and what passwords were being shared among team members. And admins couldn’t restrict who could change shared passwords, further expanding the risk.

It was clear to Joaquín that their existing solution didn’t provide the granular visibility and proactive controls needed to meet Thirdfort’s evolving security standards.

“We needed a tool that could provide measurable data on our security posture. Once we gained the visibility Dashlane offered, we were able to identify key areas for immediate improvement and track our progress.”

The solution: A platform that provides robust credential risk visibility and management

One of Thirdfort’s criteria for a new credential manager was seamless integration with Google Workspace. They wanted a centralized platform that would simplify employee management of all passwords and other sensitive information, while also facilitating secure password sharing. For IT, easy integration with Google meant smoother deployment across the organization and automatic enforcement of the new password policy.

After evaluating 1Password and Dashlane, Thirdfort chose Dashlane because it provided more robust features and was more cost-effective. Dashlane’s zero-knowledge architecture and ability to limit access rights to shared passwords were among the standout features.

Thirdfort’s management appreciated that they could gain immediate visibility into password risk thanks to the Password Health feature.

“We were missing the visibility into our risks. Once we got visibility with Dashlane, we saw clear opportunities for improvement, such as addressing instances of password reuse across the organization.”

Thirdfort recently implemented passkeys, which can also be stored in Dashlane. Another valuable feature for employees is Secure Notes, which enables teams like software engineers to share API keys and other critical data securely.

When Dashlane launched OmnixTM—an AI-accelerated credential security platform—Thirdfort switched to the new plan to gain holistic credential protection. In fact, employees don’t even need to be logged into Dashlane or have deployed the extension to be protected by Omnix.

The platform includes:

  • Credential Risk Detection, which provides complete visibility across the organization and enables IT to uncover credential risks proactively while responding to threats faster
  • Nudges, which send smart, automated notifications that encourage employees to close security gaps
  • AI phishing alerts, which automatically notify employees of potential phishing attempts in real time—before they enter any data

For Joaquín, the Nudges feature was especially a lifesaver, reducing IT workload significantly.

“Before Nudges, I was constantly chasing people and reminding them how many weak or reused passwords they had,” he explains.

A screenshot of a Dashlane Nudge is labeled "Security alert" at the top, followed by "The password you just used is compromised." There is a "Remind me later" and a "Change password" button at the bottom.

Now, he has Nudges set up to automatically run two separate reminders for weak passwords and reused passwords every week.

“I literally turned the Nudges feature on one day and haven’t had to think about it ever again. I have a process and a calendar set up to check it every 30 days, make sure it’s going to run and nudge, and make sure that the Password Health score is going up,” he shares.

Joaquín also uses Nudges as an additional key performance indicator of Thirdfort’s improvements in security posture. By monitoring the changes in the number of Nudges sent for reused and weak passwords, along with the Password Health scores, he can more confidently report to management how well security is working.

New hires are now automatically onboarded to Dashlane Omnix, and the credential manager has become part of the security conversation.

“Dashlane is one of the first things we tell new people about during the onboarding process. We make sure everyone understands how secure we’re trying to be and how important Dashlane is.”

The result: An intelligent platform that’s integral to security posture

Deploying Dashlane was “quite simple,” both for IT to invite users to the platform and for employees to set up new accounts, according to Joaquín. The tool’s ease of use helped ensure fast adoption across the organization.

“Every single person at the company must have Dashlane, even our contractors who are hired for a few months,” he says. “It sits on top of all the accounts that we have. You can’t have any other software account without a Dashlane account.”

Features like Credential Risk Detection, Password Health, and Nudges enable Thirdfort to mitigate their risks before threats can turn into serious incidents.

“I’m super happy with the [Credential] Risk Detection. Seeing the stats, it’s just crazy how many things we were going to be missing if we didn’t have it.”

In addition, Thirdfort increased their Password Health score across the organization from 76% to 94.1%, and the number continues to climb.

Dashlane Omnix helps them boost security culture, creating awareness about the importance of security at Thirdfort and empowering their people to protect customer data proactively. This empowerment not only enhances the company’s security posture but also fosters a culture of responsibility and engagement among the employees.

Joaquín shares, “Having Dashlane as part of the onboarding process and relying on Dashlane to make sure that everyone's passwords are safe, secure, and strong enough, that is one of the best things about having Dashlane—and I cannot imagine Thirdfort without those.”

Joaquín notes that Dashlane prioritizes customer feedback and uses it to continually improve the platform, which makes Thirdfort feel like a valued customer. He appreciates seeing the many enhancements made to the solution during his tenure. This customer-centric approach, coupled with the continuous upgrades to the tool, enhances Thirdfort’s trust in the brand and the solution.

“We’re quite happy with Dashlane as a whole, and the Omnix features are just amazing to us,” he says.

Dashlane has been an integral part of Thirdfort’s overall security success. The tool is among the key metrics that measure their security posture, with the Password Health score reported regularly to management and to the entire organization.

“We wouldn’t be where we are right now without Dashlane. I don't think we would have been able to pass some certifications—it has improved our security posture a lot.”
