New With iOS 12: Autofill Passwords in Safari & Other Apps with Dashlane
After many months of anticipation, Apple released iOS 12 today to the public. We’ve been preparing for this release for a while, and are especially excited for you to gain access to the new Password Manager API. This feature allows iPhone and iPad users to access and fill passwords in Safari and other supported apps with Dashlane—that means less copy-pasting and more of the seamless and secure logins you’ve come to expect as a Dashlane customer.
Once you’ve updated to iOS 12 and the latest version of Dashlane through the App Store, you’ll be able to autofill in Safari and other apps with Dashlane.
How do I get started with iOS 12 autofill?
1. Download iOS 12
First thing’s first: You’ll need to update to iOS 12 on your device. Before doing so, Apple suggests backing up your iPhone. Once that’s done, head to Settings > General > Software Update on your iOS device to download iOS 12. You’ll need WiFi and must be connected to a charger if your battery is below 50 percent. You’ll also need to know your Apple ID and password—which you’ve hopefully saved in Dashlane! If you’ve forgotten your Apple ID, Apple has tips on how to recover it here.
2. Download the latest version of Dashlane
If you don’t already have Dashlane on your iPhone or iPad, you can download Dashlane through the App Store, and you’ll automatically receive the latest version, equipped to handle iOS 12 autofill.
If you already have Dashlane on your device, head over to your “Updates” tab in the App Store, and tap the “UPDATE” button next to Dashlane.
3. Enable in-app autofill on your device
This is the last step between you and autofill iOS bliss. Simply go into your device Settings > Passwords and Accounts > Autofill Passwords. Enable AutoFill Passwords and select Dashlane as your password manager of choice. For optimal performance, we highly recommend unselecting iCloud Keychain.
Once you’re done, your AutoFill Passwords settings should look like this:
4. You’re all set—enjoy autofill in Safari and other supported apps
