tenup/faq

Password generators use algorithms to create random passwords based on a combination of characters, numbers, and symbols to generate strong and secure passwords. They ensure that passwords are difficult to guess and enhance online security.

tenup/faq-item

It’s a free tool that creates strong, random passwords instantly. You can use it here, in the Dashlane app on mobile, or through the Dashlane Smart Extension with our personal password management plans.

Nope, it’s free! But if you want to save passwords, autofill them, sync across devices, and get added protection, Dashlane Premium, our personal password management plan, is the way to go.

Generating a strong password with Dashlane's Password Generator is easy. Simply customize the settings according to your preferences, such as password length, character types, and special symbols. As you modify your requirements, Dashlane automatically generates a strong password that meets your criteria. Random passwords are easy with Dashlane!

Yes, it’s fully integrated in the Dashlane app in personal password management plans, so you can generate and save strong passwords anytime.

Yes, it is safe to use. The most important thing about a password generator is the flexibility and customization to create really random passwords. Dashlane allows different options for the user, such as the ability to limit them by letters, digits, and symbols, but also to avoid similar characters. For Dashlane personal plan users, our Password Generator follows industry-standard encryption protocols and generates passwords locally on your device, ensuring that your password is not shared or stored by Dashlane. If you’re a Dashlane user and you save your passwords in Dashlane, your generated random password is encrypted and protected, and accessible only with your Dashlane Master Password.

It is generally recommended to change your password regularly, ideally every 3-6 months, but this becomes less necessary if you’re using a random password generator. Regular password changes help mitigate the risk of unauthorized access and maintain the security of your accounts. However, if you suspect a security breach or if you receive a notification about a compromised service, it is advisable to change your password immediately. Dashlane Premium and Friends & Family plans provide users with Dark Web Monitoring alerts and next steps to take if their information is compromised in a data breach.

The most common password mistakes include: - Reusing the same password across multiple accounts - Using short or simple passwords (like 123456 or password) - Including personal information like your name, your pet’s name, or your birthday - Failing to update weak or compromised passwords - Storing passwords in insecure places like notebooks, browsers, or unencrypted files To protect your passwords: - Use a password manager like Dashlane to generate and store strong, unique passwords for every account - Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible - Regularly monitor your credentials for breaches. (Dashlane Premium makes this easy with Dark Web Monitoring.) - Avoid sharing passwords over email or text—use secure password sharing instead With Dashlane Premium, you can automate all of this—from generating secure passwords to monitoring password health and autofilling them safely across all your devices.

You’ll never have to write them down, reuse them, or risk forgetting them. Dashlane Premium keeps everything encrypted, autofilled, and instantly accessible wherever you are. Try it for free for 14 days. (No credit card required.)
