The challenge: Reducing risk and protecting financial health to enable growth
The solar energy industry is experiencing extraordinary growth. Active since 2016, SolarQuote Installation and Maintenance is no exception. The organization offers end-to-end support for customers and has built their business on a technology model, distinguishing them in the industry. “Solar energy is an advanced technology, and it should be taken to market that way," Jeff Marmins, CEO of SolarQuote, explains. “Right now, we operate on four main pillars: generate revenue, grow culture, protect financial health, and reduce risk.”
SolarQuote currently serves the Central Valley, California area but is planning to open multiple locations and become a franchise. To support that long-term vision, cybersecurity plays a critical role in reducing the organization’s risk and helping them maintain and protect their financial health.
From a technology perspective, SolarQuote relies on numerous applications to run their business and has accounts with sensitive client information. A password guards each account, but before SolarQuote found the right tool, there was no official password management process. Some employees were using a password management solution to store credentials, while others turned to a shared spreadsheet that any employee could access, print, or change.
To keep up with the fast pace of business, employees were acting autonomously. As a result, there were many missing and inaccurate passwords, which impacted almost every area of SolarQuote’s business, from HR to Marketing to Operations. After an employee with sole access to a critical application left the organization without transferring access first, Jeff knew it was time to take action.
“Not having access to the correct passwords was concerning, and it could have impeded our ability to do business,” Jeff explains. “We had to have the right password management policies and technology in place before we could scale.”
Finding the right password management became integral to SolarQuote’s holistic cybersecurity journey.
For SolarQuote, financial health pertains to everything from employee productivity to building a strong customer base. “If someone leaves or moves into a different position, money and time is wasted as passwords are recovered by another person,” Jeff shares. Login recovery was a major pain point, which is why a password management solution was exactly what SolarQuote needed to strengthen their cybersecurity foundation and foster the organization’s growth.
The prerequisites for SolarQuote’s ideal password management solution were:
- Offer leading security
- Simplify onboarding and offboarding
- Provide safe and fast access, even when remote
The solution: Cyber protection, ease of use, and scalability
Jeff initiated the search for an ideal password management solution. Having used a handful of solutions in the past, he knew what he liked and didn’t like. While some SolarQuote employees were using other password management solutions, he wanted to move away from tools that didn't meet his standards. Jeff read multiple articles by research and consultancy organizations and liked that reviews of Dashlane were favorable.
“When I saw Dashlane, I knew it was the right password management solution for our company,” Jennifer Pemberton, General Manager at SolarQuote, explains. “If we're going to grow and expand our team, then we can't afford to be without a product like Dashlane.”
Now, SolarQuote benefits from a variety of features:
- Single sign-on (SSO) gives each staff member one set of logins to access multiple applications
- Admin Console supplies a centralized password management system, offering simple-to-manage account ownership and access
- Dark Web Monitoring alerts users when their old and reused passwords have been compromised and provides recommended next steps to secure those passwords
- Smart Spaces keeps business and personal logins separate
- Password Generator creates strong, random passwords automatically
- Dashlane’s extension enables employees to securely access their logins and work seamlessly without repeatedly opening a separate desktop app
- Autofill completes forms by filling in login information and manages users’ data when browsing the web
- Dashlane’s mobile app syncs users’ data and credentials across all devices
The result: Protecting data and a solid reputation
Jeff is very pleased with how easy it was to get started with Dashlane. Moving passwords from the online spreadsheet into Dashlane was simple, and importing information from the other password solution was fast. Now, Jeff has one place to go to ensure that SolarQuote’s passwords are securely stored and managed. Dashlane’s simplified password management makes SolarQuote’s onboarding and offboarding process smooth.
The level of security that Dashlane provides gives Jeff peace of mind because he knows SolarQuote’s sensitive information and reputation are protected. SolarQuote is pleased to be protecting their customers, too, which the organization considers to be a critical part of providing good customer service.
Now, employees can quickly and safely access the applications and sites they need, whenever they want, wherever they are, because the Dashlane extension is built right into their browser. With SSO, SolarQuote has reduced the number of passwords to one set of logins, improving their security, streamlining access, and elevating the employee experience.
While all employees benefit from SSO, it’s especially helpful for those SolarQuote employees who need to access their tech stack in a variety of environments, including at other businesses and at home. SSO helps them work more efficiently and focus on the task at hand rather than spending time logging onto numerous sites or applications. Employees can easily manage credentials for endless accounts, including multiple accounts on the same site or application. Dashlane clearly shows employees which account they’re logging in to and will only autofill on verified, trusted domains and URLs specified for that account.
“Dashlane is the linchpin in our tech stack and helps us maneuver smoothly throughout the day,” Jeff shares. “Whether we’re accessing applications from our desktop or a mobile device, Dashlane provides us with consistency.”
Today, SolarQuote has the strong cybersecurity foundation they want, but this is only the beginning of their journey with Dashlane, as the organization anticipates facing new challenges as they scale.
The password management solution plays a key role in SolarQuote’s ongoing cybersecurity and growth strategy, but when it comes down to it, Jeff believes SolarQuote isn’t the only organization that can benefit from Dashlane, sharing, “Any organization that wants to grow needs a solution like Dashlane.”
